We will pull, check out, and brown bag them for pick up in the lobby of the library.

Procedures

To ensure everyone's safety:

  • Per Mayor Restaino, effective Thursday, February 10, 2022, face coverings will be optional for employees and the the public in our NF city buildings, including the Main and LaSalle Branch libraries.
  • Patrons are asked to use the hand sanitizer as they enter the buildings.
  • Anyone who feels unwell or has an elevated temperature is instructed not to enter library buildings.
  • Return items via book drops only. Returned items cannot be handed to staff across the counter.
  • Keep at least 6 feet apart from other people (social distancing).
  • Stand behind sneeze guards at counters.
  • Scan their own library cards and reduce touching by leaving items on the counter during transactions.
  • Payment of fees is encouraged as debit or credit payment to avoid unnecessary touching.

What we are doing to ensure your safety:

  • High touch areas to be wiped down on a frequent basis throughout the day, including computer keyboards.
  • All returned items will be cleaned with sanitizing wipes.
  • Library furniture and public computer terminals have been reconfigured to meet 6 foot social distancing of patrons, discouraging gathering/lounging. The mentality will be ‘grab and go’ for patrons, yet no time limit will be imposed upon visitation. Tables will have 2 chairs, on opposite sides and repositioned each morning.  Sofas will not be re-deployed.
  • Public computer terminal use will be solely for one hour, with an extension of one  hour, providing no one is waiting (as per policy).  Only one extension is allowed.  Computer use is limited to every second computer for social distancing reasons.  Librarians are to wipe down public terminals and back of chair tops  after each public session.  Chairs at terminals will be deployed on June 1.
  • Effective June 1, restrooms on the first floor of Main Library as well as Lasalle Library will be reopened to the public.  Restrooms will be cleaned based on the regular schedule each morning, and will additionally be sprayed with the electrostatic sprayer in the morning and  mid day.
  • Public gatherings in the library’s meeting rooms by outside groups  will echo the state’s policy of maximum numbers per gathering.  Meeting rooms are available to  outside groups and are instructed to practise social distancing (face masks, 6 feet distance, hand sanitizer).  Group sizes are limited by NYS law. 2nd floor access will  not be permitted by the public unless a program or gathering is occurring.
  • Curbside pick up for all requested items will continue at both branches.
  • Donations are not accepted at this time.  If found in the book drop, they will be disposed of.
  • Effective June 1, 2021, newspapers will be offered once again to the public without  quarantining.Patrons will be asked to hand sanitize before touching.
  • Periodicals: Current magazines will be placed in the pile with back issues.  Periodicals can be read in the library or circulated to take home.

Due dates & fines

Beginning January 1, 2021, library items returned late will again accrue fines.
  • Adult books, Playaways, CDs and Books on CD: $0.10 per day per item; $5 max fine per item
  • DVDs and Video Games: $1 per day per item; $10 max fine per item
  • All NFPL Children's materials will remain fine free
