The Great American Read on PBS

The Great American Read is an eight-part series that explores and celebrates the power of reading, told through the prism of America’s 100 best-loved novels (as chosen in a national survey)*. How could we not be obsessed? We hope you'll join us on this journey. Stay tuned to our social media and within the library to see how we're celebrating the books on the list.

Start here to view a list of the titles, after which you might want to stop by (or log in to Hoopla or Overdrive) for copies of those you've missed - or want to revisit! Then tune in beginning on September 11 for the two-hour launch episode in which the list of 100 books is revealed, five one-hour theme episodes that examine concepts common to groups of books on the list, and a finale, in which the results are announced of a nationwide vote to choose America’s best-loved book.

Strategic Plan 2018 - 2023

Great Stories Club Grant

Niagara Falls Public Library has been selected by The American Library Association (ALA) to take part in the Great Stories Club, a national grant program that supports reading and discussion programs for underserved teens. Created in 2006, the Great Stories Club engages young adults with accessible, thought-provoking literature, facilitates humanities-based discussion with peers, and encourages library outreach partnerships with alternative schools, juvenile detention facilities and a variety of other youth-focused community organizations. Librarian Joanna Battaglia will facilitate the program and looks forward to sharing about it during the coming year. Click here to learn more about the program.
